Time Warner Cable Inc. is nearing a deal to buy Insight Communications Inc., the cable operator controlled by private-equity firm Carlyle Group, for about $3 billion including debt, people familiar with the matter said.
The two parties were negotiating the final agreement Sunday and a deal could be announced as early as Monday, the people said.
The deal would join two of the 10 largest U.S. cable operators by subscribers, continuing consolidation in a business facing competition for TV subscribers from satellite operators and telecommunications companies, as well as Internet-based upstarts.
